Wanna Dance Lyrics

I just wanna dance
Dance wanna dance
Give me just a dance
Just a dance
Take a chance
Can you dance
Can you take a chance

If you would look
Into my eyes
Could you ignore me
And deny
The feeling that is running
Through your body tonight
But you’re just a
Hypocritical coward
And you really don’t
Have the power, to
Man up, man up
Look at me face to face
Yeah man up
Man the fuck up
I can take it just
Give it to me straight

I just wanna man
Man, wanna man
Give me just a man
Just a man who can dance
A man, who can dance
Not a self centered
Manipulator
Who never even
Gave me a chance
I just wanna dance
Dance wanna dance
Give me just a chance
With a man who can dance

You can weasel
Around the dance floor
Trolling for a Barbie doll
Trophy girl bore
I know it’s just too hard
To dance with me
It’s easier to be a whore
So go ahead and have yourself
A fun time, I’m gonna
Dance to the beat of my own rhyme
And let loose, really let loose
Find a man who’s vibing the truth
Yeah let loose, really let loose
You better watch out for me
I’m gonna groove

I just wanna dance
Dance wanna dance
Give me just a man
Just a man who can dance
All I wanna do is dance
Can you take a chance
Well I don’t care if you can’t
All I’m gonna do is dance
Gonna dance dance dance dance
Dance dance dance
Gonna dance dance dance dance
Dance dance dance
Gonna dance dance dance dance
Dance dance dance
Gonna dance

I just wanna dance
Dance with a man
Give me just a man
Just a man
Who can dance
I just wanna dance
Dance wanna dance
Give me just a man
Just a man who can
Take a chance
I just wanna dance

Give me just a chance
Chance just a dance
Take a chance

I just wanna dance
Dance dance dance dance
Dance dance
Wanna dance dance dance dance
Dance dance dance
Wanna dance dance dance dance
Dance dance dance
Wanna dance

Take a chance
Take a chance
Wanna dance?

Story Behind This Song

The overall “theme” and spirit of this song for me is really just about how sometimes you just wanna go out and dance! Just because you wanna dance with someone doesn’t mean you want anything else from them. That’s why it’s kind of hard to just go to a nightclub and just dance (aka the Lady Gaga song) without guys taking at as a signal that you’re interested in them.

The inspiration and backstory of this song is somewhat similar to that theme and a continuation of the song story of my “Get a Move On” song. To summarize that song quickly, this guy had been accusing me of running away from him and he said if I kept running that he wasn’t waiting. Therefore I listened to his song, tried to understand where he was coming from and got the message! He was done with his girlfriend and I wasn’t going to “run” anymore. I guess he thought I was kind of shy too as the next day when I was hanging out with him he clearly put his ass in front of me and I decided to nudge it with my knee. He told me, wow, I didn’t think you’d go for it, I thought you were kinda shy. It’s not that I’m shy - I guess I’m just used to being more of a ball buster with guys than an ass grabber, ha! That night after the nudging his ass incident we were at an after show, this band was playing and I was dancing right in front of him as he was up close to me. I made the unfortunate mistake of just ever so casually putting my hand on his knee/thigh for like 2 seconds, and I guess it ends up he’s gay, as he completely ran away.  I mean talk about a COWARDLY HYPOCRITE!! He accuses me of running away and the second I just try to prove him wrong by doing something that shows I‘m not shy, he fucking runs away himself. I actually have a modified cover of Anuhea’s “Big Deal” song that speaks to how I was just trying to prove him wrong that I wasn’t shy, which is the only reason I put my hand on his thigh, and that even rhymes, ha!

I was pretty much done with him there and then that weekend with all of the drama before and then his completely hypocritical behavior (you can read about it more of the back story in the Get a Move On song story). However, like I said, I respected his stupid song and I wasn’t going to use that incident as an excuse for me to run, no I would not ”RUN” anymore. I continued going to his shows and supported him and thought maybe he just needed a little more time or something. It’s funny how it can go from someone being so into you at one point and then as SOON as you make any kind of move, they are done with you. It’s ALL about EGO and COMPETITION for most “typical” guys and especially him. I actually had paid more attention to the drummer in his band before he started any of his shenanigans, so it was either that insecurity or his simply just wanting an escape from a relationship he was no longer interested in or something to explain his behavior towards me!

I couldn’t believe his complete 180 shift. However then, maybe I can, as he met a Barbie doll. Granted I don’t know Barbie (that’s just what I’m calling her), or think anything bad of her. I also completely understand why any “typical”, “generic” “plastic” Ken doll type of Hollywood/L.A. dude would prefer Barbie to me, that is an expected thing in life, especially when I heard this guy was fat as a kid. I mean now that he’s fit and in a band and owns a sailboat and can score some hot Barbie ass, who’s to blame him? Seriously, I’m not even kidding! What I will NEVER understand and why I don’t think I can ever respect him again, is the way he treated me (check out the Back that Hug Up song for even more back story). He would have NEVER treated a barbie the way he treated me, never denied Barbie from getting a chance to be real life friends, hell even Facebook friends (aka connections not true friends I get the difference) and NEVER just completed ditched her at an open mic night (left RIGHT BEFORE I went up to sing 3 little songs) after all the support and respect I had previously shown him with his band and then never even trying to make up for it!

I guess some things you’ll just never understand. That is why it’s just great to go out and “dance” and lose yourself in the music. I don’t mean to be airing all my dirty laundry with these song stories. If anyone out there that runs across my songs and actually completes reading a story can relate with it and feel that they’re not alone in being manipulated by selfish people, maybe they’ll really identify with my song even more, beyond the lyrics. A song is so much more than a song, it is a story, it is lots of time spent writing and refining, practicing, and then investing in to record and get produced. Songs are stories that last forever, let us document HISTORY, and let us just “Let it Go” as one of my favorite all times songs from the Frozen soundtrack says.

So “here I am, and here I’ll stay, let the storm rage on” I was never really that into him anyway....just the idea of him!
