I’d Rather Ride a Wave Lyrics

Driving in my cabrio
My top’s pulled down
All the guys are lookin
At me all over town
I’m headed for the beach &
I’m playing Big & Rich
Ignoring all the scrubs &
Then they call me a bitch

But who needs a cowboy
When I can ride a wave
I get tossed around
By both of ’em
And slapped in the face
But only surfing gives me
The stoke that I crave
So who needs a cowboy
I’d rather ride a wave
Who needs a cowboy
I’d rather ride a wave

Everybody’s telling me
That I need to get lucky
But I just seem to like
All the rockers (old version)
All the assholes (new version)
That never seem to want me (old version)
That only want to tease me (new version)
And they always have a way
of making me feel like a piece of shit (old version)
of leaving me with nothing but a piece of shit (new version)
So I’d rather try to catch a wave
And get a piece of it

So who needs a rocker (old version) an asshole (new version)
When I can ride a wave
I get tossed around
By both of ’em and
Smacked in the face
But only surfing gives me
The stoke that I crave
So who needs a rocker (old version) an asshole (new version)
I’d rather ride a wave
Who needs a rocker (old version) an asshole (new version)
I’d rather ride a wave

It’s the love/hate relationship
That knocks me down
But I keep pushing through
One step forward, two steps back
But once I catch it
We’re up in a groove

So who needs a boyfriend
When I can ride a wave
I get tossed around
By both of ’em and
Slapped in the face
But only surfing gives me
The stoke that I crave
So who needs a boyfriend
I’d rather ride a wave
Who needs a boyfriend
I’d rather ride a wave

So who needs a cowboy
Who needs a rocker (old version) an asshole (new version)
Who needs a boyfriend
I’d rather ride a wave
Try to prove me wrong but
I’d rather ride a wave
Try to prove me wrong but
I’d rather ride a wave

Story Behind This Song

Surfing is a passion of mine.  It's a place I can get away and just be one with the ocean and forget about the realities of life on land when people, especially douchebag guys leave you in the dust when you've done nothing but be supportive to them.

The waves may not be ideal every day, but they are always there for you and you can depend on them.  They may throw you around a little bit and give you a tough time (they keep things real, keep ya humbled), but waves at least give you a chance to get to know them, hang out for hours at a time with them, and there's no stoke that is better than just catching that one great long and smooth ride on a longboard, or a fast flying quickie thrill on a funboard/shortboard.

It is correct what they say, it's not the size of the wave, but the motion of the ocean!  Therefore I say when in doubt (about a guy or anything in life), paddle out (instead) :)
