Good Hair Day Lyrics

I spent 4 years and over 20 grand in college
All just to get myself some, academic knowledge
And get my diploma, you know that the official degree
For an entry level low paying job in the big city

I got all this debt weighing me down
Working two jobs to pay everybody back
I just wanna get my feet off of the ground
And make enough money so I can relax

But all I want right now, all I really want
Is one of those good hair days
When I’m living it up
Without a care in the world
And everything’s going my way
What my future holds I really don’t care
Not letting anything get in my way
Because I’m feeling on top of the world everybody
When I’m having a good hair day

I’ve got so many choices and so much to decide
People won’t stop asking, if I’ll ever be a bride
Should I stay with the comfort or try something new
I can’t think about it now, I’ve got way too much to do

And all I want right now, all I really want
Is one of those good hair days
When I’m living it up
Without a care in the world
And everything’s going my way
What my future holds I really don’t care
Not letting anything get in my way
Because I’m feeling on top of the world everybody
When I’m having a good hair day

I call my friends and tell em that we’re going out tonight
Cuz I tamed my frizz today and my hair’s feeling right
It must’ve been that Sunsilk I used this morning
Cuz ever since then, my hair’s been performing

And right now I got, I got all I really want
Just one of those good hair days
And I’m living it up
Without a care in the world
And everything’s going my way
What my future holds I really don’t care
Not letting anything get in my way
Oh yeah I’m feeling on top of the world right now
And I’m having a good hair day

Yeah, I’m having a good hair day
Here’s to having a good hair day

Story Behind This Song

I was inspired to write this song when I was working on the Sunsilk account back at the media agency I was at when I lived in Chicago.  It was one of the most fun accounts I've worked on and it was cool to write presentations for it as we had to write them in plain everyday non-corporate "Katie speak" language - as to identify with our bulls-eye target, the mid-twenty year old.  We knew that "Katies" were going through a transition in their life from college into the real world and facing all these bigger decisions about what they really wanted to do with their life, and termed it the quarter life crisis.  I actually read a book by that exact name to get more into the mindset of our target.

Therefore this song is just about how little things like a good hair day can just make a person's day and all the other concerns don't matter for the time being, we're just enjoying the day!  It's amazing the confidence that a good hair day can give ya!
